# GRIT — Gender Rights in Tech > GRIT (Gender Rights in Tech NPC; NPO 286-451; PBO 930076148) is a South African feminist nonprofit, founded in 2021 by Leonora Tima, that builds free, co-created, survivor-centred technology against gender-based violence (GBV) and online harm. Based in Cape Town and Johannesburg, working across South Africa. Formerly known as Kwanele – Bringing Women Justice; the GRIT App was formerly the Kwanele app. GRIT's tools are free at the point of use, POPIA-compliant and survivor-led on every data decision. GRIT does not replace police, courts, counsellors or emergency services — it closes the gap to the help that already exists. ## Tools - [Zuzi](https://www.grit-gbv.org/tech#zuzi) (Zuzi by GRIT, also known as ChatGBV): GRIT’s free, ethical, trauma-informed AI chatbot for people affected by gender-based violence in South Africa. Private, available 24/7 on WhatsApp (+27 87 725 2215, https://wa.me/27877252215) and on the web at https://chatgbv.app. English, isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho and Afrikaans (more languages rolling out through 2026). Zuzi is an AI tool, not a counsellor or lawyer: it gives plain-language information about rights, protection orders and support options, and helps people find suitable human support. Built with survivors; public model cards; no sign-up or app download needed. - [GRIT App](https://www.grit-gbv.org/tech): free Android/iOS safety app (formerly the Kwanele app) with a panic button, evidence vault, mapped support services, court and protection-order information, and Zuzi built in.
