About Us
At the heart of GRIT lies a deeply personal ‘why.’ In 2020, tragedy struck within our founder’s family when her 19-year-old niece, nine months pregnant, lost her life due to Gender-Based Violence. This heart-wrenching incident became the catalyst for the birth of Kwanele NGO and our revolutionary Kwanele mobile app.
Driven by the belief that technology can be a force for good, we are on a mission to break down barriers survivors face in reporting violence and achieving justice. Our ‘why’ is rooted in ensuring more people not only report their cases but, more importantly, have their voices heard and their experiences acknowledged.
We acknowledge and address the contextual challenges surrounding GBV in South Africa, especially among women, children and youth.
If you or someone you know is experiencing GBV, download our GRIT reporting app or contact our Whatsapp line: 072 737 8819
"GRIT's understanding and commitment to providing a safe, confidential space for survivors has been so important and is so crucial. I only wish the GRIT app existed years ago to offer the support I desperately needed when I was younger.”
